West Valley City hopes for boost from census change

It’s more than a name: The switch to the name "Salt Lake City-West Valley City" to describe Utah’s largest urban area also could be an economic boost.

Jonny Arbuckle, general manager of Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City, said the addition makes the state’s second-largest city even more prominent. National retailers will take note of the name, he said, as they look at demographics when trying to decide where to set up shop.

West Valley City Mayor Mike Winder said the change means his city’s name is in the statistical data that businesses consult. And Alan Anderson, ChamberWest president and CEO, said sharing billing shows that West Valley City is part of an area that includes the benefits and amenities of Salt Lake County. Salt Lake Tribune
