Watson Pharmaceuticals is spending $44 million to expand its Salt Lake City research and manufacturing facility with the goal, in three to five years, of nearly doubling its workforce to 700. The New Jersey-based manufacturer of various products, including transdermal patches that deliver medication through the skin, is remodeling 20,000 square feet of its 330,000-square-foot facility in Research Park south of the University of Utah. In addition, it is adding 17,000 square feet to accommodate future manufacturing needs.
“We’re doing prep work now to be in a position to launch [a major product] called Lidoderm,” said Watson spokesman Charlie Mayer. Work began last month, and steel framing is expected to be up near the end of summer. Salt Lake Tribune
