Outdoor Retailer shows to stay in Salt Lake City through 2014

California-based Nielsen Expositions, producers of the annual Outdoor Retailer Trade Shows held each summer and winter in Salt Lake City, has extended its contract with the Salt Palace through 2014. The Summer Market trade show first came to Utah in 1996. Along with the Winter Market, the pair brings thousands of conference attendees from all over the world. It is a not-open-to-the-public trade show where manufacturers of outdoor equipment display their wares to buyers from retail outlets.

The Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates that the estimated economic impact of the extended agreement could reach over $120 million before the new contract expires. With more than 21,000 people attending the summer show this week, the convention bureau estimates the direct economic impact to the Salt Lake area and Utah at $19.4 million. This year’s show, which experienced a 28 percent increase in preregistered attendees, had a 4 percent jump in exhibit space sold to over 4,000 exhibitors. The Salt Lake Tribune
