Utah State University officials are inviting the general public and university community to be part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the Logan campus’ newest building — the headquarters of its distance education programs.
The Distance Education Building is a 41,000-square-foot building that will use the latest technology to provide educational opportunities for students across the state — helping to fulfill USU’s land-grant mission.
Specifically, it will house eight distance education classrooms, the Utah Education Network — a service that provides classroom technology to Utah’s higher-education institutions and public schools — USU’s faculty assistance center for teaching (FACT), and technology beta rooms to experiment with new distance education technology with the help of state and international corporate sponsors.
The building was funded through a mix of corporate sponsors and self-support from the university, according to Wagner, who added that USU officials did not make it a priority for the Legislature to fund the building because of the current economic conditions. As a result, no state money was allocated for its construction.
This is the second USU building to be dedicated on the Logan campus this year. In February, a ceremony was held for the grand opening of the Agricultural Sciences Building on the Quad. Herald Journal
