Utah SBA, AARP to offer mentoring for older entrepreneurs

The U.S. Small Business Administration and AARP will team up Oct. 2 to host the first National Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Day.

The event will be targeted at entrepreneurs over the age of 50. It will help match the "encore entrepreneurs" with successful business owners and community leaders for advice and assistance.

Utah’s event will be hosted by the local SBA office and AARP. It will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Federal Building, 125 S. State St., Salt Lake City.

The Utah Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Day will be a roundtable training event and the Salt Lake Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) will be available for mentoring and counseling.

"With one in four individuals ages 44 to 70 interested in becoming entrepreneurs, and 63 percent of Americans planning to work during retirement, small business ownership is a good option," the SBA said in a statement announcing the mentoring program.
