Salt Lake County will forgo millions in property taxes to help build a parking terrace for an upscale development at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. The contribution comes as part of a newly formed community development area, which aims to put $14.5 million overall in future tax dollars toward a so-called Canyon Centre in Cottonwood Heights. The money would pay for public infrastructure within a project that likely will include hotels, office buildings and restaurants. The county’s share: about $3 million, collected during an 18-year period. Salt Lake Tribune
