PacifiCorp awards contract to complete power project

PacifiCorp, the parent company of Rocky Mountain Power, has awarded the contract to build its Mona-Oquirrh transmission line in Utah to EC Source, a Mesa, Ariz.-based company that constructs large-scale, high-voltage transmission projects. The contract signals that the long-running dispute between Rocky Mountain Power and Tooele City finally is at an end.

Rocky Mountain Power said it needs to build the transmission line to bring electricity from its substation near Mona, which receives some of its power from the nearby Currant Creek plant, to substations in the Salt Lake Valley. Construction work on the 100-mile transmission line will begin almost immediately, said Dave Eskelsen, a spokesman for Rocky Mountain Power. “We are anticipating that it will be in service by mid-year 2013.” Salt Lake Tribune
