Salt Lake Community College has been awarded the biggest grant in its history, $2.7 million from the U.S. Department of Labor that the school will use to train students in digital and new media.
The money will help pay for curriculum development, faculty hiring and other needs in the digital design and new media fields. Some of the money will be used on the school’s $30 million Center for New Media, under construction on the college’s South City campus, 1575 S. State St., Salt Lake City. The center will include more than 120,000 square feet of new and renovated classroom space and 43 laboratories to accommodate more than 7,000 additional students from SLCC and the Salt Lake School District.
