Utah may get Amex employees from N.C.

American Express said Wednesday it will close a customer service center in North Carolina, a move that will eliminate 550 jobs and could result in a number of Carolinians transferring to three other company offices, including one in Taylorsville.

The service center in Greensboro employed 1,900 people. About 400 of them will be allowed to work from home as the Greensboro office’s duties are shifted to other American Express operations. Many of the others will be offered transfers to service centers in the Salt Lake City area, Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., said company spokeswoman Joanna Lambert.

No details were provided about the number of employees expected to migrate from Greensboro to Taylorsville, where the service center has almost 2,000 workers. Salt Lake Tribune
