SLCC building to relieve classroom space crunch

Salt Lake Community College has begun construction on a large building that will create much-needed classroom space for Utah’s largest student body.

Although officials broke ground last week on the college’s main Taylorsville campus, the structure is still undergoing a program review by AJC Architects. It is expected to cover 136,000 square feet on three levels, built over the site of the recently demolished automotive trades building. The building is funded entirely by a $29 million state appropriation, an amount far less than what it costs to build similarly sized buildings on Utah’s university campuses. Officials hope to have the building open in time for fall semester 2012. Salt Lake Tribune
