Salt Lake City to receive federal streetcar grant

Salt Lake City will receive a $26 million federal grant to fund the construction of a streetcar line to the Sugarhouse neighborhood.The U.S. Department of Transportation made the announcement Wednesday.The project calls for a 2-mile line to be built along an abandoned railroad corridor purchased by the Utah Transit Authority between 2100 South and Interstate-80. The project will connect the Sugarhouse business district to the regional TRAX light rail system.The link is intended to stimulate transit-oriented development in the area and encourage the use of public transportation.
